1. Rocky Beach

(lyrics & music Bram Bol sr, Jan Kijne)

Rocky beach - the sun is low.

Sit and watch the ocean’s glow.

See the forms of kittiwakes come flying by,

the incoming tide to turn and go.

I’ve been down - and been in love.

A lucky bird, a mourning dove.

Never been a dreamer of a better world

as long as the colors change above.

So no, don’t wanna go,

like the scene, love the show.

Oh no, I don’t wanna go,

I’m alive and goin’ slow.

Getting dark, I need a bite.

Leave my footsteps in the night.

Take my time to walk under a starry sky

that silently fades in morning light.

Rocky beach in morning dew.

Sit and watch the ocean’s blue.

Hear the rush of water on the pebblestones

and wait for the tide to turn anew.

2. Hidden World

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

We’re at a private island

floating into the bay

livin’ on only sunshine

lovin’ the day away.

Nobody’s sticky fingers,

nobody’s prying eyes.

A hidden world,

two birds of paradise.

But you’ll never know what you’re missin’.

You’ll never know it’s too bad,

that all we are doing together

is all going on in my head.

I’m four storeys up

and the rain’s falling down

on the cars in a backstreet in town.

I’m standing by the window,

see how we walk ashore.

Somebody keeps on knockin’,

it is the boy next-door.

He’s smiling on the doorstep.

“Hey there, long time no seen.

What’s on your mind,

lady, where have you been?”

But you’ll never know what you’re missin’.

You’ll never know it’s too bad,

that all we are doing together

is all going on in my head.

I’m four storeys upand the rain’s falling down

on the cars in a backstreet in town.

3. Another Space

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

The sun will die, that’s what they say,

a brilliant spark deep in the Milky Way.

They don’t know why, it’s in the stars,

but I don’t let these gloomers spoil a sunny day.

They say that love is, on the whole,

a high on drugs that keep us in control.

May be it’s real, but just the same,

I feel that there’s no real love without a loving soul.

So, we live in another place,

another time, and space.

And we know better, you and I,

the sun will never die.

It makes me sad to hear that I’m

a stroke of luck, no reason ‘nd no rhyme,

so I ignore a universe

of boring grains of sand down in the hour-glass of time.

They cannot show me what to do,

and they don’t tell me how my dreams come true,

or what I see, and what is more,

may be I’m made of dust - but not when I’m with you.

Cos’ we live in another place,

another time, and space.

And we know better, you and I,

the sun will never die.

5. Friends Forever

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

It’s in your smile, and in your eyes.

Oh no, you can’t disguise it.

And I can hear you pray:

“Give me more than the catch of the day…”

Look who is talkin’, another me,

and everyone can see it.

But someone plays a game:

we are lying in wait for the same…

Dear sister Venus,

we’ve got a choice to make.

Don’t let it come between us.

How much can a friendship take?

                    Can we be friends forever,

feeling it fits like a glove?

                    We’ve  shared our dreams and

                    we’ve shared our secrets,

but how can we share our love?

We shoot it out, we stake a claim,

we toss it up, you name it.

Or do we dare agree

that we count one and one as three?

Dear sister Venus,

we’ve got a choice to make.

Don’t let it come between us.

How much can a friendship take?

                    Can we be friends forever,

feeling it fits like a glove?

                    We’ve  shared our dreams and

                    we’ve shared our secrets,

but how can we share our love?

4. Marram Grass

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

From between the tufts of marram grass

the summer air

takes every dream along to everywhere.

And sand’s at rest – in my hour-glass.

All around the world is running on,

but without me.

Enchanted by the rustling of the sea,

I’ll soon forget– that you are gone…

 A simple fit,

we weren’t out to it.

It just came to pass,

between the tufts, the tufts of marram grass.

Now I’m dozing off in paradise.

Birds full of fun,

the smell of seaweed drying in the sun.

And I dream away, far beyond the skies.

Lifebell’s ringing – but I skip the class

between the tufts, the tufts of marram grass.

6. Different Eyes

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

A young girl plays at sea,

and I am moved somehow

that someone, long ago,

made her look at me.

I found her on a shelf.

I blew the dust away

to give the tape a go.

The girl is out of focus, but I know:

I’m looking at myself.

         Along the way we leave

         images of life,

to tell us where we‘ve been

         and that we still survive.

I’ve seen this girl before.

The prints are still the same

and fun to recognize.

But they are different too, because those eyes…

don’t have them anymore.

         Along the way we leave

         images of life.

They tell us where we‘ve been

         but not where we’ll arrive.

          I tell ye..

I found our photos too.

A couple in the snow,

the wine, a smile at me.

And thinking back, I wonder what I see

now that I look at you.

7. Late Summer Evening

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Late summer evening, distant cicadas in the dark.

The smell of ashes, the beauty of a dying spark,

and at the skyline slowly fades away a fantasy in red.

The night is sultry, I am reclining on the deck.

More Vermentino, not in the mood to hit the sack,

now all the loony music of the day stops running in my head.

I make do with my life

for better and for worse.

I’m looking at the sky,

me and the universe.

But I wonder, I just wonder

why do I feel so sad?

Is it nostalgia for something far and undefined?

A silent longing deep in the quicksand of my mind?

Is it a blue return trip to the hopes and dreams I ever had?

Isn’t this a waste of time?

Should I be annoyed

at being with myself in solitude?

But I lie under the stars

‘nd sinfully enjoy

every single moment of my mood.

late summer evening, I see a glow-worm on the floor.

A little partner, not knowing what he’s glowing for.

Without a notion of what it’s all about, then life isn’t too bad...

And now I wonder, I just wonder

why do I feel so sad?

Now I wonder, I just wonder

why don’t I go to bed……

9. Wheel of Fortune

(lyrics & music Bram Bol sr, Jan Kijne)

A soul is idlin’ in the air,

just circling around till fate is calling.

Comes down somewhere, when the wind is falling,

to turn up the beat of a random heart.

You know, you can’t choose where you’re born.

You don’t pick your genes, the name of your mother.

Just take it, you know, one way or another,

for all you can do is make a start.

   And the wheel goes round:

a handful of gifts, unpleasant surprises,

but I don‘t care ´bout numbers and prizes

because, after all, it’s only love that counts.

It’s fate that takes you by the hand,

but it’s up to you which way you’re going.

A winding road where some hope is glowing

and friends come along to join the band.

And when you’re lucky on the way,

you’re sharing a home that’s warm and funny,

and far away from the smell of money.

A place where a soul would love to land.

   And the wheel goes round:

a handful of gifts, unpleasant surprises,

but I don‘t care ´bout numbers and prizes

because, after all, it’s only love that counts.

         it’s only love that counts.

8. Singing Sand

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne & Bram Bol sr)

All alone – in the desert

deep in a desert blues,

I walked in a gloom in beautiful views.

But over a hill – a sudden release

     put me strangely at ease.

I was dancing

and the desert wind took my hand.

I was dancing in singing sand.

I woke up - in the city,

frightened to face the day

Went back to my dream and was carried away.

Back into the sun – and over the hill,

     reliving the thrill.

I was dancing

and the desert wind took my hand.

I was dancing in singing sand.

Wonderful dreams, wonderful tales.

The desert of life has mystery trails.

     You’re lost in the sun

     and tumble, until

     you’re over a hill

and you’re dancing

and the desert wind takes your hand.

You are dancing in singing sand.

In singing sand.

12. Algorithm to Your Heart

(lyrics Annette Hulscher, music Judy Hulscher)

One kiss plus two hugs plus four nights of waiting.

One rose plus four gifts plus two nights of dating.

I have a beautiful mind, I'm one of a kind.

But a formula to make you mine is a thing I can’t find.

People say that I'm smart,

but they don't know I've tried too hard.

Can't find the algorithm to your heart.

One trip times two calls times fifty one shades of grey.

One text times two dates times a love letter every day.

I have a beautiful mind, I'm one of a kind.

But a formula to make you mine is a thing I can’t find.

People say that I'm smart,

but they don't know I've tried too hard.

Can't find the algorithm to your heart.

But you made me see,

simple as can be,

the algorithm is just you plus me

You have a beautiful mind, you'rene of a kind.

I was totally blind how I couldn't find.

We will be never apart,

you plus me from the start.

This is the algorithm to your heart..

11. Turtle Bar

(lyrics & music Bram Bol sr, Jan Kijne)

I’m out in the dark,

one move and my body is free.

I crawl to the breaking waves,

come on, bit more, before

I dive in the open sea.

Alone with the moon,

a wonderful ocean to roam.

I carefully save in mind

a vibe, a smell, to tell me

I’ve gotta go back home.

Something’s wrong…

night lights that I’ve never seen

and a never-ending groove of

noise and voices, and why

is the beach so clean?

“Come out of the dark, baby,

So cool that you travelled from far.

We all have been waitin’ here,

Lay down, relax, lay eggs,

chill out in the Turtle Bar!”

Now I am confused,

don’t know how I lost my way.

There must be a track somewhere,

a vibe, a smell, that tells me

I’m on my beach ….. some day.

13. Just One More

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Wanna tell you ‘bout my baby, oh, my baby likes to shop.

Has the hots on sexy dresses,

but the bills, they make me sob.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will pay it off tonight.

Well, let’s say, just one dress more,

          and then I’ll stop.

She likes dancing on the playa, tanga and a tiny top.

So I tell her: Hey, Miss Piggy,

you’re just showing off your chops.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will take this off tonight.

Well let’s say, just one track more,

          and then I’ll stop.

One more, just one more,

one more [heard that before]

One more, just one more,

one more, and then I’ll stop.

When my baby gets on drinking, oh, she goes over the top.

Then I say: I’ll drop you, baby,

when this ain’t your final drop.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will be your shot tonight.

Well let’s say, I’ll have one more,

          and then I’ll stop

On a day, she’ll meet Saint Peter, and he’ll say: No, lollipop,

when I let in girls like you, then

I’ve to find another job.

Ooh, Saint Peter, I won’t bite,

when you use your key tonight…

          Well, okay, one angel more,

          but then I’ll stop.

One more, just one more,

one more [heard that before]

One more, just one more,

one more, and then I’ll stop.

10. Day Number 8

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

On the seventh day - he was chillin’ at the pool.

Made it all his way - this creation was so cool.

Birds in trees, corn on the cob - oceans full of life

Day and night, and as a cherry on top, the love of man and wife.

And there was morning  and evening - everything okay

on the seventh day.

But then someone said:– Sorry to disturb you now.

See, your work goes bad – people mess it up somehow.

Forests gone, rivers dry – skies are full of stuff.

Sea’s a dump and many die with money instead of love.

But there’s a morning, an evening – see, you can’t stay away

for another day.

He put down his beer – took a load of dust.

Come on, help me here – we’ll make someone we can trust.

Better senses? No Sir! - That doesn’t have a part.

Bigger brain? Oh no Sir! ….Just a bigger heart…

And there’s a morning, an evening – no, it’s not too late, on day number eight.

There’s a morning, an evening - have you been made

on day number eight?
