1. Black Trees

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

On a sunny day

a flash of lightning hit my heart.

Saw you come my way,

you fanned the flames right from the start.

In paradise, I was a stranger,

I felt the heat but not the danger.

The fire of love, now I can tell,

is much the same as the fire in hell.

And so I’m here on my knees

and I see only black trees.

Why didn’t you warn me, Lord above,

that that is what you get when you fall in love.

Oh, you turned me down,

didn’t care to tell me why.

So I turned around,

couldn’t hear you say goodbye.

No, nothing burns like blind desire,

when you’re short of tears to kill the fire.

When the fire of love’s out of control

then soot and smoke get in your soul.

And so I’m here on my knees

and I see only black trees.

Why didn’t you warn me, Lord above,

that that is what you get when you fall in love.

No volunteers, no firemen,

Better help yourself as best as you can.

And so I’m here on my knees

and I see only black trees.

Why didn’t you warn me, Lord above,

that - that is what you get when you fall in love.

2. To the Sea

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

I was young, when I said to my daddy:

“No idea how my life’s gonna be.”

And then he told me: “Just follow the river, and then

at the end you will get to the sea.”

I got out and I sailed down a forest.

Mother Nature was beckoning me.

Wonderful birdies and flowers surrounded my boat,

but I floated away to the sea.

To the sea, to the sea,

On the river, and down to the sea (2x)

Further down sounded echos of laughter.

Happy girls who were waving at me.

I saw them ready to dive from a salient cliff,

but I drifted away to the sea.

To the sea, to the sea,

On the river, and down to the sea (2x)

Then I came to the end of the river,

got a view of my blue destiny.

On my way, outward-bound,

I was looking around,

and I was all alone in the sea.

Turned the boat, and I went to a harbour.

I was wrong, very wrong from the start.

Well, they can tell you to follow a river and how,

but from now, I will follow my heart.

From the start, from the start,

he is sure he will follow his heart (2x)

3. Singing Sand

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne & Bram Bol sr)

All alone – in the desert

deep in a desert blues,

I walked in a gloom in beautiful views.

But over a hill – a sudden release

     put me strangely at ease.

I was dancing

and the desert wind took my hand.

I was dancing in singing sand.

I woke up - in the city,

frightened to face the day

Went back to my dream and was carried away.

Back into the sun – and over the hill,

     reliving the thrill.

I was dancing

and the desert wind took my hand.

I was dancing in singing sand.

Wonderful dreams, wonderful tales.

The desert of life has mystery trails.

     You’re lost in the sun

     and tumble, until

     you’re over a hill

and you’re dancing

and the desert wind takes your hand.

You are dancing in singing sand.

In singing sand.

4. Alone in the Woods

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

What’s that sound in the trees?

A man? A bear? Well, I  don't care.

Where’s the wine, Marie-Louise?

But that shade on the tent?

A thing from space? Or Big Foot’s face?

Should we make our testament?

Feel a shiver in my spine: who did we invite?

Do the phantoms of our life all come together tonight?

All right, it’s the wine and the time and atmosphere.

All right, it’s the wine and the time and silence here.

We can see it in the flames,

our lucky days and shames,

the eddies of our memories and moods.

We’re queens of the night - alone in the woods….

Had a hell of a friend.

It was love or die, a crazy guy,

we married at the end.

And what’s done is done.

I’ve a roof over my head, an empty bed

and you girls for the fun.

We’re made of what we have, and made of what we miss.

Jesus, what a load of crap, why am I telling all this?

All right, it’s the wine and the time and the atmosphere.

All right, it’s the wine and the time and the silence here.

We can see it in the flames,

our lucky days and shames,

the eddies of our memories and moods.

We’re queens of the night - alone in the woods….

5. On the Waterline

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Hot sun, cool water.

I walk in the promised land.

No home. Don’t bother.

I flip-flop through the sand.

Ain’t sad, ain’t happy.

Carry on, that’s all I think.

Life’s strange, life’s scrappy.

Hey miss, wanna buy a drink?

Long day – working in the heat.

          On the waterline.

Long day – working on my feet.

          On the waterline.

Arancia, coco, bibite.

Arancia, coco, bibite.

Walk up, walk down.

Gonna fly back home one day.

No pain, no pity.

I’m strong – and I keep close.

Smell the sea, not the city.

Feel homesand in my toes.

Long day – working in the heat.

          On the waterline.

Long day – working on my feet.

          On the waterline.

Arancia, coco, bibite.

Arancia, coco, bibite.

Walk up, walk down.

Gonna fly back home one day.

6. Hidden World

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

We’re at a private island

floating into the bay

livin’ on only sunshine

lovin’ the day away.

Nobody’s sticky fingers,

nobody’s prying eyes.

A hidden world,

two birds of paradise.

But you’ll never know what you’re missin’.

You’ll never know it’s too bad,

that all we are doing together

is all going on in my head.

I’m four storeys up

and the rain’s falling down

on the cars in a backstreet in town.

I’m standing by the window,

see how we walk ashore.

Somebody keeps on knockin’,

it is the boy next-door.

He’s smiling on the doorstep.

“Hey there, long time no seen.

What’s on your mind,

lady, where have you been?”

But you’ll never know what you’re missin’.

You’ll never know it’s too bad,

that all we are doing together

is all going on in my head.

I’m four storeys upand the rain’s falling down

on the cars in a backstreet in town.

7. Just One More

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Wanna tell you ‘bout my baby, oh, my baby likes to shop.

Has the hots on sexy dresses,

but the bills, they make me sob.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will pay it off tonight.

Well, let’s say, just one dress more,

          and then I’ll stop.

She likes dancing on the playa, tanga and a tiny top.

So I tell her: Hey, Miss Piggy,

you’re just showing off your chops.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will take this off tonight.

Well let’s say, just one track more,

          and then I’ll stop.

One more, just one more,

one more [heard that before]

One more, just one more,

one more, and then I’ll stop.

When my baby gets on drinking, oh, she goes over the top.

Then I say: I’ll drop you, baby,

when this ain’t your final drop.

          Ooh, sorry man, you’re right.

I will be your shot tonight.

Well let’s say, I’ll have one more,

          and then I’ll stop

On a day, she’ll meet Saint Peter, and he’ll say: No, lollipop,

when I let in girls like you, then

I’ve to find another job.

Ooh, Saint Peter, I won’t bite,

when you use your key tonight…

          Well, okay, one angel more,

          but then I’ll stop.

One more, just one more,

one more [heard that before]

One more, just one more,

one more, and then I’ll stop.

8. Rocky Beach

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Rocky beach - the sun is low.

Sit and watch the ocean’s glow.

See the forms of kittiwakes come flying by,

the incoming tide to turn and go.

I’ve been down - and been in love.

A lucky bird, a mourning dove.

Never been a dreamer of a better world

as long as the colors change above.

So no, don’t wanna go,

like the scene, love the show.

Oh no, I don’t wanna go,

I’m alive and goin’ slow.

Getting dark, I need a bite.

Leave my footsteps in the night.

Take my time to walk under a starry sky

that silently fades in morning light.

Rocky beach in morning dew.

Sit and watch the ocean’s blue.

Hear the rush of water on the pebblestones

and wait for the tide to turn anew.

9. Listen Mister

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Sand still warm at the waterline.

Stars in the sky shinin’ bright.

Bottle’s cool and the music’s fine,

let’s pick up some birds for the night.

Listen mister, can I get your daughter tonight?

Gonna make fun with the other guys.

Wanna see her dancing in the shiny moonlight

with a look of love in her eyes.

Listen mister, I can’t be standing too long,

there’s some other birds waiting out there.

Don’t let me down, I won’t be traitin’ her wrong.

We’ll handle your honey with care.

We’ve got music, mojito’s and lemon ice.

She’ll get crazy from the start.

We’ll take her home again after sunrise

with a sunny song in her heart.

So come on, you know, everything’s right.

Man, I don’t tell you no lies.

Lister mister, give me your daughter tonight,

gonna take her to paradise.

Watch it, man, wait a bit.

     He’s a fuckboy and she’s just a kid.

Watch it, man, wait a bit,

The boy ain’t shit, the boy ain’t shit.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

10. Late Summer Evening

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

Late summer evening, distant cicadas in the dark.

The smell of ashes, the beauty of a dying spark,

and at the skyline slowly fades away a fantasy in red.

The night is sultry, I am reclining on the deck.

More Vermentino, not in the mood to hit the sack,

now all the loony music of the day stops running in my head.

I make do with my life

for better and for worse.

I’m looking at the sky,

me and the universe.

But I wonder, I just wonder

why do I feel so sad?

Is it nostalgia for something far and undefined?

A silent longing deep in the quicksand of my mind?

Is it a blue return trip to the hopes and dreams I ever had?

Isn’t this a waste of time?

Should I be annoyed

at being with myself in solitude?

But I lie under the stars

‘nd sinfully enjoy

every single moment of my mood.

late summer evening, I see a glow-worm on the floor.

A little partner, not knowing what he’s glowing for.

Without a notion of what it’s all about, then life isn’t too bad...

And now I wonder, I just wonder

why do I feel so sad?

Now I wonder, I just wonder

why don’t I go to bed……

11. Turtle Bar

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

I’m out in the dark,

one move and my body is free.

I crawl to the breaking waves,

come on, bit more, before

I dive in the open sea.

Alone with the moon,

a wonderful ocean to roam.

I carefully save in mind

a vibe, a smell, to tell me

I’ve gotta go back home.

Something’s wrong…

night lights that I’ve never seen

and a never-ending groove of

noise and voices, and why

is the beach so clean?

“Come out of the dark, baby,

So cool that you travelled from far.

We all have been waitin’ here,

Lay down, relax, lay eggs,

chill out in the Turtle Bar!”

Now I am confused,

don’t know how I lost my way.

There must be a track somewhere,

a vibe, a smell, that tells me

I’m on my beach ….. some day.

12. No Fish, No Beer

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

In a little town on a sunny coast,

an old man lived as a fisherman,

putting out to sea in a yellow boat

never sure of coming home again.

When the sea was rough and the catch bad,

then after a while there was no food,

but he wouldn’t starve - no one let him down,

everyone got help in the neighbourhood.

When the work was done and the things all right,

the folks would meet at night,

just sitting on the beach by a smoky fire

telling all the tales, joining the choir.

When the catch was good, there was money about

‘nd they had a lot of fun until the stuff was running out.

No, he didn’t know about overtime,

didn’t know a guy with a burnout,

sitting at a screen, checking on the phone,

happy with a like from the incrowd.

He had all the good of a simple life,

didn’t have to share it on Skype.

Every day he did what he had to do,

didn’t have to wait for the next hype.

And when the work was done and the things all right,

he would hear a voice outside:

come sitting on the beach by a smoky fire

listen to the tales and join the choir.

Yeah, the catch was good, there is money about

‘nd we’ll have a lot of fun until the stuff is running out.

Like the old man said: no fish, no beer,

but I'm still happy here.

Come sitting on the beach by a smoky fire

listen to the tales and join the choir.

Yeah, the catch was good, there is money about

‘nd we’ll have a lot of fun until the stuff is running out.

15. Brother Fish

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

About half a billion years ago

I was a fish around Marigot.

But life in sea was such a bore

that I fixed my fins and I walked ashore.

Life on land gave me all I’d need,

the air was fresh, and the water sweet.

But then these dino’s came after me

so I grew a fur and I climbed in a tree.

When life is easy, you can live along

but what will you do when your life goes wrong?

     You’ve got a choice, ‘s far ‘s I can tell:

you can wait for a change

     or you can change yourself.

Up in the trees my life was good,

plenty of chicks, and plenty of fruit.

But I got in trouble with an alpha-male,

so I ran from the woods and I skipped my tail.

And now I’m fishing in Marigot bay.

Vive la vie – and the wine’s okay.

See, brother fish, you’ve got plenty of time

I’m gonna grill you - with garlic and lime.

13. Another Space

(lyrics & music Jan Kijne, Bram Bol sr)

The sun will die, that’s what they say,

a brilliant spark deep in the Milky Way.

They don’t know why, it’s in the stars,

but I don’t let these gloomers spoil a sunny day.

They say that love is, on the whole,

a high on drugs that keep us in control.

May be it’s real, but just the same,

I feel that there’s no real love without a loving soul.

So, we live in another place,

another time, and space.

And we know better, you and I,

the sun will never die.

It makes me sad to hear that I’m

a stroke of luck, no reason ‘nd no rhyme,

so I ignore a universe

of boring grains of sand down in the hour-glass of time.

They cannot show me what to do,

and they don’t tell me how my dreams come true,

or what I see, and what is more,

may be I’m made of dust - but not when I’m with you.

Cos’ we live in another place,

another time, and space.

And we know better, you and I,

the sun will never die.

14. Mole Rap

(lyrics Iris van der Sluijs, Megan Hulscher, Jan Kijne

music Bram Bol sr, Jan Kijne)

The coast is clear, let's get lit.

Turn up the music high a bit.

Drop the act, man, put out your teeth.

We’re damn kinky, underneath.

We’re not naked,

we’re not blind.

We just fake it

for humankind.

Join the party, feel the heat.

C’m on, Queen, move your feet.

Swing that body round and round.

We’re the mole-rats, underground!

You don’t want a life as a dog

because you’re hairy and cute.

They leave you in peace when they think

that you’re ugly and nude.

Start the act, man, put in your teeth.

Follow the plan and stop to breathe.

Turn off the light and get away.

Just keep quiet, don't be a prey.

They don’t know.

Show’m some skin -

Start the show,

we’ll take ‘m in.

They don’t stay, don’t wanna get lit.

Turn back the music high a bit.

Swing those bodies round and round.

We’re the mole-rats, underground!
